Attendance at the Snowmass Chapel would suggest that for many people, Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday Services at the Snowmass Chapel are the highlight of the liturgical year. Representing the Birth and Death of Jesus Christ, respectively, these two celebrations are like bookends to the most significant historical figure of all time. It is therefore fitting and right that we commemorate these two holidays with the best that we have to offer.

Christmas Eve Services have traditionally taken place at 7:00 and 9:00 PM on December 24th. The Choir and Bell Choir begin rehearsals several weeks in advance and prepare unique and traditional carols of the season. The accompaniment is usually provided by a string quartet, woodwinds, harp and organ. The Christmas story is retold through traditional Christmas readings interspersed with music. The highlight of the evening is the lighting of the candles and the singing of Silent Night as we seek to symbolize the light that shines in the darkness.

If Christmas Eve is hushed, reverent and introspective, then Easter is its celebratory opposite. The service takes place at 9:00 AM in the full light of the day with the triumphant pronouncement of Jesus Christ’s Resurrection. Once again, the performing forces of Choirs and Orchestra assemble to give voice to the triumphant music that speaks to our hope of life everlasting.

There is always need for volunteers for both of these events. It would not be possible to celebrate these two holidays without the time and talents of musicians (both vocalists and instrumentalists) as well as people to run sound, lights, video camera, greet, pass out programs, help with receptions and on and on. If you are a musician, please be sure to enter your email on any page of this website under the words: “Sign up for our Email Newsletter” and then click “go” and follow the prompts. Eventually you will come to a page where you can check boxes next to the communication that you would like to receive. Be sure to check the appropriate boxes for the Choir or Bell Choir. We use Constant Contact for our email communication and we do not sell our lists or spam and you can opt out at any time.

We hope to see you at our next Christmas Eve or Easter Service!
